The secret formula: how to create a fail-proof look for Fashion Week

In the dizzying world of fashion, each fashion week is a new chapter, an opportunity to unfold our style with boldness and originality. How do I manage to create unique looks every NYFW? In this note, I'll tell you the foolproof method to achieve it.

First steps

I start with the weather forecast. February, in particular, challenges outfit choices as in the same week New Yorkers can experience anything from sunny days to storms. But beyond that, each day brings a crucial decision: how to express my style on every occasion while considering multiple external factors?

For some, in winter, the formula is simple: an elegant coat and a striking handbag. However, for me, that equation is not always satisfactory. Why settle for a coat when the fashion world offers so many possibilities? Creativity is my guide, and I can't allow a coat to monopolize all the attention in most of my looks.

So, in addition to considering the forecast and schedules, my main source of inspiration lies in the designers who present their collections each season. Each one has their aesthetic and story, and my goal is to pay homage to their vision while remaining true to my own essence.

For me, fashion is a celebration of individuality, a means to express our identity uniquely and vibrantly. That's why every choice I make for fashion week is carefully thought out to ensure its uniqueness. Because in a sea of trends and styles, standing out is an art form in itself.

Join me at New York Fashion Week, where style becomes a personal expression and a tribute to the diversity of human creativity.

DAY 1: The Color Explosion

The first day of New York Fashion Week presented exceptionally warm weather for February in the Big Apple. The sun was shining brightly, and the cold was barely felt. On this opening day, my agenda was marked by the highly anticipated Libertine show, a brand that always defies expectations under the creative direction of Johnson Hartig. Libertine, known for its deconstructed clothing and bold use of color and embellishments, is the epitome of maximalism in contemporary fashion. Those who appreciate extravagance and originality find their paradise in Libertine.

For this occasion, my choice of attire was carefully selected to reflect my unique and vibrant style. I opted for a distressed denim jumpsuit, a piece that has been a treasure in my wardrobe for years. Every time I wear it, I feel enveloped in renewed energy. The explosion of colors and the saturation of denim illuminate me inside and out, creating an aura of vitality.

I decided to layer a cashmere sweater under the jumpsuit to add a touch of warmth without hiding the striking main garment. The color of the sweater was strategically chosen to complement and highlight the tones present in the denim, creating a perfect visual harmony.

As for accessories, every detail was designed to elevate and complete the ensemble with style and sophistication. I opted for striking blue corduroy shoes that not only complemented the maximalist style but also added an extra dose of elevation to the outfit. The blue lenses, in perfect harmony with the denim tone, and the lilac Jodie bag from Bottega Veneta added a touch of creativity and originality to the look.

As for hair and makeup, I decided to keep it simple and natural. I opted for soft waves in my hair and discreet makeup, choosing natural beauty without detracting from the ensemble.

Thus, with a look full of brightness and color, I kicked off NYFW, anticipating days filled with creativity and passion.

DAY 2: Sophistication in Black

Although the weather on the second day was similar to the previous one, the main difference lay in the timing of the event: this time, the appointment was in the evening (at 6 pm, but in February, at that time it's already nighttime in New York). For these occasions, I tend to be more drawn to dark tones. The show in question was MONSE, a brand founded by the creative directors of Oscar de la Renta, who decided to venture down paths where their creativity could flourish without limits.

I wanted my outfit to incorporate some garment from the honored brand, as a way to connect with the essence of its art. I opted for Monse tailored pants and a black leather shirt. The accessories, in tune with the shirt, included a black croc-textured belt, a bag with the unique texture of Miu Miu, and plain black boots. Some may be surprised to see me wearing so much black, but that is precisely the effect I seek when playing with colors. (If I wore black every day, it wouldn't attract attention when I do wear it).

Unlike the previous day, I decided that the hairstyle would be the focal point of my look. For this, I turned to Malena Vayo, my ally in creating makeups and hairstyles that complement my outfits for these occasions. Inspired by the maximalism trend, I decided to incorporate ribbons I had saved from luxury brand wrappers. The harmony between the ribbons from Dior, Gucci, Chanel, Miu Miu, and Celine in my hairstyle evoked a "more is more" aesthetic, which aligned perfectly with the spirit of the occasion.

DAY 3: A Style Challenge

The third day of NYFW presented me with a challenge that can occur on occasions: two consecutive fashion shows. The question was clear: the same look for both events? When facing this situation, I know I have two options: opt for a neutral outfit that works for both shows or create one that fits better for one than the other, but is acceptable in both. If there's one thing that characterizes me, it's my determination, and definitely the option of the neutral outfit was the least appealing to me.

I started the day with the Carolina Herrera show, followed by the presentation of the moment's knitwear designer, Zankov. Since I had a sweater from Zankov's collection, I decided that this garment would be the starting point for my look. Inspired by its vibrant colorful stripes and the movement of the longitudinal lines, I opted for a silver pleated skirt that reflected the tones present in the sweater. The color combination was an explosion of creativity: dark yellow lenses, silver earrings, a green purse, and blue shoes.

With so many colors in play, I shared some makeup ideas with Malena: for the eyes, some blue eyeshadows or a green eyeliner, and for the lips, bordeaux... Finally, we opted for celestial eyeshadows and bordeaux lips, creating a perfect balance between boldness and elegance. As the Carolina Herrera show began, I was surprised to see that some models wore makeup very similar to mine, which only reinforced my connection with the show.

To complete the look, I opted for a hairstyle suggested by Malena: two ponytails made with very straight hair. This choice not only reflected the symmetry of the sweater stripes but also enhanced the aesthetic of longitudinal lines present throughout the ensemble. With fascinating symmetry at play, I felt ready for a day full of fashion.

DAY 4: Style in the Midst of the Storm

The fourth day of New York Fashion Week brought an unexpected challenge: a snowstorm that covered the city under a white blanket. I wouldn't miss Gabriela Hearst's show for anything in the world, even though I had to travel from Upper Manhattan to Brooklyn. Faced with this adverse weather, I had to brave the cold and snow without sacrificing my style.

Aware of the forecast, I knew that the coat would be the central piece of my look. I opted for a black and white faux fur coat, one of my favorite garments.

Upon waking up and seeing the snowy landscape, I envisioned a showdown: Loli vs. the snowstorm. My image had to convey strength in adversity. I wanted my look to be in harmony with the drama of the surroundings, combining functionality with fashion.

As for accessories, I followed the high-contrast aesthetic, opting for dark tones that contrasted with the whiteness of the snow and highlighted my skin. Black lenses with an ideal shape to protect my eyes from the wind and snow, gloves, and black boots completed the ensemble. At the last moment, I decided to change my boots for more suitable ones for the snow, yielding to the need to keep my feet dry and warm.

As for hair and makeup, I sought inspiration in "boxer braids". I sent Malena, my glam artist, visual references of intricate braids and makeup with grunge touches. Malena raised the stakes by incorporating white and black ribbons into the hairstyle, creating a unique blend of strength and bravery. The makeup was a free interpretation of my visual references, highlighting my face with a touch of drama and originality.

The combination of this look with the snowy environment resulted in one of the best combinations for street style photographers. Its impact was such that it went viral and captured the attention of multiple media outlets, demonstrating that style can prevail even in the midst of a snowstorm.

DAY 5: A Touch of Tradition and Vanguard

For the closing of New York Fashion Week, the weather forecast announced a sunny day but with strong winds and below-zero temperatures. Faced with this forecast, I decided to opt for a combination of vintage garments and contemporary elements that reflected my unique style and bold personality.

I chose to prioritize vintage pieces, as they guarantee the exclusivity of my look and avoid the possibility of coinciding with someone else at the shows. For the BEVZA show, I chose to wear a coat that belonged to my grandmother, adding a touch of nostalgia and authenticity to my outfit. Underneath the coat, I wore a wool bodysuit from the same brand, BEVZA, combined with jeans to achieve a modern and casual style.

I wanted to add a touch of color and sophistication, so I opted for my iconic square-toed ballerina flats from Jacquemus in a vibrant red tone, a detail that stood out against the gray of the concrete jungle, as many call Manhattan. Additionally, I decided to incorporate a 'babushka' scarf on my head, a gesture towards the cultural heritage of Ukrainian designer BEVZA and a way to pay homage to her roots.

The hairstyle had to be compatible with both the scarf and the strong winds. My glam artist, Malena, managed to keep the 'babushka' scarf intact with a perfectly executed ponytail that resisted the onslaught of the wind, creating a balance between tradition and modernity.

As for makeup, it highlighted my facial features and was perfect for the ensemble. To complete the look, I chose black accessories, such as a vintage 1970s purse I acquired in Paris and oversized sunglasses that, in addition to protecting me from UV rays and wind, added a touch of glamour.

This ensemble reflected my eclectic and avant-garde style, blending elements of the past with contemporary fashion in a combination that captured attention on the last day of NYFW.

Loli's Notes

In the exciting universe of fashion, NYFW has been a stage where I have displayed my style with audacity and originality. From the first day to the last, facing unusually warm weather to braving a snowstorm, each day has been a blank canvas to express my creativity. I have merged vintage garments with contemporary elements, played with a palette of vibrant colors, and created combinations that reflect my unique personality. Once again, I reaffirm that fashion goes beyond trends; it is an art form that celebrates diversity and individuality. With each carefully selected look, I have paid tribute to the vision of designers while asserting my own style in a world full of possibilities. What will be the next fashion week I attend? In which city of the world will I witness the unfolding of the next trends and the most innovative styles? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: I will be ready to immerse myself in another exciting chapter of international fashion.
